Hansen: So you're a big fan of Chainsaw?
11th: Oh yeah! Chainsaw is probably my favorite.
Hansen: Because I have this running joke with Kane Hodder, who plays Jason [in Friday the 13th], that basically the fans of Chainsaw are 13-year-old boys, and the fans of Friday the 13th are 15-year-old girls.
11th: You really think so?
Hansen: Well, we're often at conventions together, we do appearances together, and we just watch how the lines form and it always seems to be that I get the prepubescent boys.
11th: Well I'm glad I'm in such esteemed company. I don't know what appeal Friday the 13th would have for girls, or anyone really. No offense to Kane.
Hansen: I've never seen them.
11th: I've seen the first one; it's in the whole "I Know What You Did..." vein minus the winking. Nightmare on Elm Street's a lot better, and I think the two of them always get lumped together.
Hansen: Well, I saw the first Nightmare and I liked it. The last one I saw was the one where they bring Heather Langenkamp back --
11th: Wes Craven's New Nightmare?
Hansen: I thought, "Oh my God." It was such an idiotic movie.
11th: I thought it was good until they were in the pits of hell or whatever.
Hansen: She killed him by just pushing into the water. It was like suddenly she just had the power to do it. What bothered me was that until that last ten minutes, you don't see Freddy. And it seems to me that Freddy should be the focus of the movie; he's the reason people want to see the movie. And we should deny them that for Robert Englund painting?

"One of the things they said at this meeting was, 'You can't make this picture without Gunnar Hansen.' And you know what their reaction was? It was, 'Oh yeah, Gunnar Hansen. He's really old now, isn't he?'"

11th: Well, that's scary in its own right. Are you looking forward to Freddy Vs. Jason if it ever gets made?
Hansen: I think it's going to get made. I was talking to Kane about it. They're doing a new Jason movie this fall, and he says it's the best Jason script he's read. I don't know whether that means anything or not. But then he said after the new year they're going to do Freddy Vs. Jason. Personally, I think it should be Jason and Freddy and Leatherface.
11th: Would you do that if they offered it to you?
Hansen: Sure, but the thing is they'd never offer it to me. You realize that what happened now is that is the average studio executive is somewhere between 24 and 28 years old and when I found out that Unapix was doing the new Chainsaw, Gary had a meeting with them because he wanted to direct the picture. One of the things they said at this meeting was, "You can't make this picture without Gunnar Hansen." And you know what their reaction was? It was, "Oh yeah, Gunnar Hansen. He's really old now, isn't he?" It's really ridiculous. But then again, when I didn't get the part for Chainsaw 2, I was disappointed -- but not when I saw the movie. Now I look at the Unapix thing and wonder if I want to get involved anyway. But yeah, if they were going to do a Freddy-Jason-Leatherface picture, I'd do it. I mean, why not? There's a Jason-Leatherface comic book.
11th: Oh yeah? I didn't know that.
Hansen: Oh yeah. And it's really interesting 'cause Leatherface is really pumped. He's huge!
11th: So who do you think would win?
Hansen: Oh there you go! Well, if I wrote the script I would. See, that's one of those questions…I get this kind of question, "If it was Freddy vs. Jason who would win?" It's just like with Star Trek, they're like, "In that 132nd episode, after the thing was over, what did you and Spock do?" I'm like, "What are you drinking?" It's the same mentality where, I don't know if you know the joke but in the Old West, with the old melodramas, the cowboys in the audience would take out a gun and shoot the villain. One needs to understand that this is just a movie.
11th: Alright. So say it's Horror Celebrity Jeopardy, and the contestants are you, Kane Hodder, and Robert Englund. Who would win?
Hansen: Oh, I'd win that one easily! Although Kane is a pretty bright guy; we have a lot of fun when you're at shows together. We try to arrange it so at shows we sit next to each other because we usually have a blast.
