WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? Jaws X 10. Giant, homicidal fish battle a Jedi Master, a yummy rapper, the chick from Wing Commander and a relative unknown with a big harpoon. Meanwhile, director Renny Harlin attempts to recover from the curse of Geena Davis.

THE CAST

THOMAS JANE: You may remember him as: nothing, probably, but if you look really hard you can find him in Boogie Nights, The Crow 2 and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie.

SAFFRON BURROWS: You may wish to forget her as: Angel Devereux in the dreadful Wing Commander. Also appeared in The Loss of Sexual Innocence, Circle of Friends.

LL COOL J: You may remember him as: hot, shirtless guy from rap videos. He also tried to kill Michael Myers in Halloween H20.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON: You may remember him as: Jedi Master Mace Windu, or Jules Winnfield of Pulp Fiction, for which he earned an Oscar nom. Also: Jackie Brown, The Negotiator, Sphere.

STELLEN SKARSGARD: You may remember him as: Well, if you happen to be Swedish, there's always Kvinnorna pa taket, Vildanden and, of course, Vargens tid.

THE CREW

RENNY HARLIN: Director of Die Hard 2, Nightmare on Elm St 4, and a bunch of flops starring ex-wife Geena Davis (Cutthroat Island, The Long Kiss Goodnight). Known for fast-paced, action fare.

AKIVA GOLDMAN, a.k.a SATAN: Producer of Deep Blue Sea counts among his Legion Spawn Batman and Robin, Batman Forever and Lost in Space.

OTHER

Deep Blue Sea is a Warner Brothers production produced by Satan, Duncan Henderson, and Jonathon B. Schwartz, among others. Duncan Kennedy and husband and wife team of Wayne and Donna Powers wrote the script.

THE PREMISE: Stupid humans inject huge, toothy sharks with something that makes them superintelligent. Naturally, the sharks don't really dig this plan, and since they're smart enough to figure out what's going on, they can also figure out who's responsible: and try to kill them.

GOSSIP and USELESS FACTS:

  • SPOILER -- Goin' back to Cali? I don't think so! Apparently, LL Cool J, who plays the chef, is gonna die one helluva gruesome death. While innocently cooking a fine meal (like every good rapper does), LL becomes locked inside with a homicidal shark! The intrepid LL decides to hide inside the oven, forgetting that the sharks are not only big and deadly, but smart enough to turn the switch to on. Yeesh!
  • Harlin's budget reportedly pushed the $80 million mark, but that's still less than the $92 million Cutthroat Island -- which grossed a US total of $11 million.
  • The sharks are rumored to bear some CGI influence, but are mostly real.
